Rationale
Cannabis is the most commonly used illicit drug by young people. Cannabis, like all drugs, can cause harm and young people are particularly susceptible to its effects. It is important that students acknowledge the potential consequences of using cannabis and provide opportunities to practise help seeking skills to successfully manage exposure to cannabis.
Scope of task
1. Firstly, write the heading ‘Cannabis and consequences’ on the whiteboard. Under the heading write the following questions on the drug cannabis for the students to answer as a group.
2. Hand out the ‘body map’ and information worksheet for students to complete.
3. Divide the class into groups of four. Each group will complete the ‘consequence ladder’ response worksheet. Each group will compare their similarities and differences as a class.
4. Write the question ‘how can this site assist if you are seeking help for a drug problem’ on the whiteboard. In their groups, students will browse the following websites to assist them in answering the question
5. Each group will gather information on each website and share it to the class.
6. Discuss with each group why these sites were useful.

Reason for inclusion
The aim of this task is to provide students with knowledge about a specific drug use, cannabis. Students will to interact, problem solve and communicate while participating in a group activity ‘consequence ladder’ worksheet. Students will use a resource such as the internet to gather information on ‘seeking help with a drug problem’ to further increase their knowledge and learn to gather relevant information on the drug cannabis.
